Margaret Godwinson wanted nothing more than an unremarkable life. One of the middle children of San Francisco’s wealthiest families, Margaret has used her share of the family funds to neatly excuse herself from the roar of life. Following a family tragedy in Summer of 1924, she has become a reclusive artist, hiding away from the world for four years. This hermit streak is ruined, however, when her brother Herman declares that he has bought a theatre and needs Margaret’s help to revive it.

After falling in love with the abandoned building, Margaret meets the build manageress and head carpenter, one Alice Grover. Alice is rough, stubborn, and puts Margaret on edge. Matters are only made worse when Herman manages to guilt her into working alongside Alice in the fly gallery throughout the run of their musical.

As Alice teaches Margaret the ropes in the shadows of the fly gallery, the two find a connection neither realised they were missing. Love begins to bloom as they open up to each other about beauty, grief and family. Just as they begin to find their rhythm together, their peace is shattered when backstage drama threatens the production. No longer safe in the lofty nest of the fly, Margaret has to decide if she will hide away again, or take a stand and put herself on the ledge for love.

About the Author

Fluxx Wyldly is a drag king, writer, and generally silly person living in Bristol UK. Fluxx was raised in the Hertfordshire countryside, but left at eighteen having run out of things to do there, and found themself quickly at home in Bristol. They have worked passionately within the Bristol queer scene for nearly 11 years, co-hosting and co-producing Brizzle Boyz, the longest consistently running drag king cabaret in the UK. They have always loved the drag scene, particularly in Bristol, creating art and encouraging artistry in all forms.

When not made-up (or as they call it, in Bruce Wayne mode), they work for a festival production company. Storytelling and entertainment have been their passion ever since that first gold star story in primary school. They have an ardent love for vaudeville, queer stories, and friends and family made through shared community (and, of course, The Muppets, which are the perfect combination of these three things).

They have a BA in theatre studies, and at least two million words put into various fanfictions and roleplaying stories across the internet, but would not like to comment on which experience has been more useful in the fourteen years since they graduated.
